The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. hosted a Regional Executive Conversation luncheon on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 featuring a tour of the Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus. The program included an insider's conversation led by Kurt Newman, M.D., President and CEO of Children’s National Hospital, on this one-of-a-kind incubator for the future of pediatric health.
The Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus is located on a nearly 12-acre portion of the former, historic Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus in Northwest Washington, D.C. It features 160,000 square feet of research and innovation space, an outpatient primary and specialty care facility and a state-of-the-art conference theater. The campus also houses JLABS @ Washington, DC—a Johnson & Johnson Innovation incubator for up to 50 pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer and health technology companies.
The campus is a key element of an innovation district that is poised to bring $11.5 billion in economic activity over 20 years and create 2,100 permanent jobs, which will lay the foundation for a new industry in the District of Columbia. Members will hear how a historic campus within an Opportunity Zone became the world's first multi-sector collaboration hub focused on improving pediatric health.
