The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. hosted The Honorable Ronald A. Klain, Assistant to the President and White House Chief of Staff, for a virtual conversation with club Chairman, David M. Rubenstein.



Mr. Klain’s public service career spans over thirty years, including his service as Chief Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee under then-Chairman Joe Biden; Associate Counsel for Judicial Selection under President Bill Clinton; Chief of Staff and Counselor to Attorney General Janet Reno; Staff Director of the Senate Democratic Leadership Committee under Leader Tom Daschle; and Chief of Staff to Vice President Al Gore. In the Obama-Biden administration, Mr. Klain served as an Assistant to the President and the Chief of Staff to then-Vice President Biden from 2009-11.



He returned to the Obama-Biden administration as the White House Ebola Response Coordinator from 2014-2015. His private sector experience includes serving as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Revolution LLC. Before joining Revolution, Mr. Klain was a partner and National Practice Group Chair at O’Melveny & Myers LLP. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was an Editor of the Harvard Law Review and won the Sears Prize. He later served as an adjunct professor at Harvard Law School for four years. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Byron R. White. He graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown University with his Bachelor’s degree.



Mr. Klain is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana and currently resides in the Washington, DC area with his wife, Monica Medina. They have three adult children.
