During his third visit to the Economic Club, Randall Stephenson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, AT&T Inc., discussed the future of the telecommunications industry just after his company's $85 billion purchase of Time Warner, and the potential impact of the 5G network on technology. Stephenson spoke about the differences between 4G and 5G, saying that while 4G allowed consumers to watch video on any device, 5G will allow for millions of technological devices to connect with each other instantly. "5G, I believe, is going to prove to be the most transformative of all the Gs that we have seen to date," he stated. On the acquisition of Time Warner, Stephenson said that it will be important for AT&T to provide entertainment content as the telecommunications landscape continues to evolve. "Think about Time Warner and all the great brands – Warner Brothers Studios and an unbelievable IP library," Stephenson noted. "Think about HBO, think about Turner with CNN... what better way to [deliver content directly to consumers] than to be paired with a company that has 170 million customers to distribute it to?"
