The Honorable Jason Smith

As President Trump’s tax policies begin to take shape and the details emerge, The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. is pleased to announce that David Rubenstein will interview The Honorable Jason Smith, Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means. The breakfast will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025. The reception will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by breakfast and the program at 8:20 a.m., concluding promptly at 10:00 a.m.

In January 2023, Jason Smith was selected to chair the Ways and Means Committee — the oldest committee in Congress. At 42, he is the youngest individual to hold this role in modern times. Jason was elected to Congress in 2013 (representing Missouri’s 8th District) after serving eight years in the Missouri General Assembly. He also served in House leadership during the first Trump administration and was elected Republican Leader of the House Budget Committee in 2021.

Jason earned degrees in Agricultural Economics and Business Administration from the University of Missouri–Columbia, as well as a law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law.

The Committee on Ways and Means plays a pivotal role in shaping America’s economic landscape. As the chief tax-writing body in the House, it derives its authority from Article I, Section VII of the U.S. Constitution. The committee oversees federal tax policy, international trade, Social Security, Medicare, and welfare programs.
