Join Economic Club of Washington member Tim Gillis, Managing Partner of KPMG, Greater Washington DC Metro Area and Patrick J. Kennedy, Former U.S. Representative (D-RI) and Founder of The Kennedy Forum for a critical conversation on mental health and how the business community can work with other stakeholders to address the changing needs of their employees and society at large. Patrick and Tim will participate in a conversation-style interview followed by questions from the group in the remaining time.
Former U.S. Representative (D-RI) and Founder of The Kennedy Forum, Patrick Kennedy, was the lead author of the landmark Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (Federal Parity Law), which requires insurers to cover treatment for mental health and substance use disorders no more restrictively than treatment for illnesses of the body, such as diabetes and cancer. In 2013, he founded The Kennedy Forum, a nonprofit that unites advocates, business leaders, and government agencies to advance evidence-based practices, policies, and programming in mental health and addiction.
The Kennedy Forum seeks to transform the way mental health and substance use disorders are treated in our health care system. Through The Kennedy Forum, Patrick Kennedy leads a national dialogue to achieve systemic reform in the U.S. healthcare system by advancing evidence-based practices ,policies, and programming for the prevention and treatment of brain illnesses ,specifically mental health and addiction.
