Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make remarks on economic developments and opportunities in Asia, and the potential for US economic engagement with the region. Prime Minister Lee’s remarks will be followed by a conversation-style interview with David Rubenstein, President of the Economic Club of Washington. They will discuss U.S. Singapore bilateral relations, economic developments in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific, and other global developments. Prime Minister Lee will be in Washington, DC to meet with President Donald Trump and members of the Administration. Singapore is one of the United States’ closest partners in Asia.

Mr. Lee has been Singapore’s Prime Minister since 2004, and was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1984. Prior to serving as Prime Minister, he held various Ministerial appointments, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance. As Prime Minister, Mr. Lee has launched the Smart Nation initiative to use technology to create a future of better living and more opportunities for Singaporeans. Mr. Lee also launched SkillsFuture, which supports Singaporeans in embracing life skills and learning. Mr. Lee also chairs the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council, an international panel that provides strategic direction for Singapore’s Research and Development Efforts.

Mr. Lee graduated from the University of Cambridge with a B.A. in Mathematics and a Diploma in Computer Science. He later received a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.
