Health care reform was the focus of Hillary Clinton’s remarks at the Economic Club. As First Lady, she was spearheading a drive to achieve comprehensive health care reform. In presenting the case for a single payer system, she warned, “If you continue to let Medicaid and Medicare grow, you balloon the deficit; if you try to restrain costs only in the public programs, you cost-shift. . . . [and you will never be able to bring an] end to the deficit.
