Gary D. Cohn serves as Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Director of the National Economic Council. He leads the coordination of President Donald J. Trump’s domestic and global economic policy agenda.

Mr. Cohn was formerly president and chief operating officer of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. from 2006 to 2016 and also served as a member of the firm’s Board of Directors and chairman of the Firmwide Client and Business Standards Committee.

Mr. Cohn joined Goldman Sachs in 1990 and held a variety of leadership positions in the firm’s Securities Division both in New York and in London, including global co-head of the Equities and Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities divisions.

Previously, Mr. Cohn was a director of the London Metals Exchange and a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the New York Mercantile Exchange and the Commodity Exchange. He earned an undergraduate degree from American University in 1982.
