Education Initiatives

The long-term stamina of the United States’ commercial clout and the vigor of future national and global economies depend upon the next generation of visionary entrepreneurs and business leaders.  The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. invests significantly in the executives of tomorrow by funding talented, motivated students in their pursuit of higher education.

The David M. Rubenstein/Economic Club of Washington, D.C. Scholarship Program is one of the most significant private sector supporters of Washington area scholars.  Awards totaling nearly $1,000,000 in scholarship each year are presented to graduating high school seniors in select D.C. public and public charter schools as well as another $30,000 in fellowships granted to doctoral candidates attending area graduate schools.

Additionally, our Scholars to Leaders Mentor Program matches David M. Rubenstein scholarship winners with Economic Club members and volunteers from companies with executives who are Economic Club members. The executive mentors provide relevant support and guidance to help encourage successful college completion and prepare students for careers in their fields of interest.

Additional support for recipients of the scholarships is provided through paid summer internships for rising college juniors and seniors. Managed in partnership with Urban Alliance, the program enables scholars to gain real life work experience in professional environments while earning salaries to help offset their college expenses.
